BSIA manufacturers ARE WARNING INSTALLERS that some security equipment may not be of the required standard, despite the use of the recognised trademark.
CE marking indicates the product conforms with the European Directive covering areas such as system design, performance and quality control. To achieve CE marking a company may need third party approval of their product but often a manufacturer's unverified claim of conformance is accepted. The onus then falls on the manufacturer to ensure their products meet the required standard and their testing methods are robust.
Chairman of the Security Equipment Manufacturers Section, Julie Kenny said: "Installers and customers alike should ask serious questions about what checks have been made to ensure that equipment works properly and safely." They should ask if they have had the product tested and do they have quality systems in place to ensure all products perform to the same high standard.
