Apprentice installers will have the opportunity to pit their skills against each other in return for fantastic prizes and industry acclaim at IFSEC 2006, Europe's leading annual security event.

For the first time this year the Apprentice Skills Challenge, sponsored by BT redcare and in association with Skills for Security, SSAIB and the NSI, will require participants to carry out a fault finding exercise prior to re-commissioning an existing system in line with the new EN standards.

In line with the changing landscape of the security installer sector, the Skills Challenge has evolved for 2006 and now requires participants to demonstrate both critical and installation skills.

As in previous years, points will be allocated against the different disciplines, taking into account the different skills required. The team with the most points wins the challenge and an all expenses paid adrenaline challenge of their choice, courtesy of BT redcare.

The contest has attracted huge interest from leading national companies in the security systems sector, with employers recognising the importance of having their apprentices showcased at IFSEC where they have the opportunity to excel amongst their peers, and put their training into practice in public.

John Stanton at Skills for Security said: "The Apprentice Skills Challenge reflects the increasing amount of new talent coming into the security industry. The standard of last year's competition exceeded all expectations with the challenge now well established as a highlight of the IFSEC exhibition. We hope to see a continuation of these high standards in 2006."

Entry to IFSEC is free to pre-registered visitors who register online at www.ifsec.co.uk where the latest event information, news and seminar timetables are also available.
