DC Alan Townsend – the crime prevention co-ordinator at the Metropolitan Police Service Flying Squad and chairman of the Raid-control and Banknote Watch crime prevention initiatives – has been awarded an MBE for his work on crime reduction in relation to commercial robbery. Alan joined the Met in 1976. In 1997, Alan was appointed crime prevention co-ordinator for the Flying Squad. Since then, his work has involved liaising with industry on a national and international basis, advising on crime reduction Best Practice.
Group 4 Securicor (UK Security) has appointed Mike Ross as the company’s head of sales in the northern region, the Midlands, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Managing a 13-strong sales team, Mike will be responsible for account retention, securing organic growth in revenues from existing accounts and winning new business. Before joining the company, Ross was employed as regional manager (northern Europe) for Hyster Europe, and tasked with implementing account and sales management processes across its dealer network.
Mike Cole has been appointed UK sales manager for Siemens Ðǿմ«Ã½ Technologies’ Security Products Division. Based at the company’s UK headquarters in Staines, Mike – who boasts 23 years’ sales experience in the security sector – is now responsible for the national team of security sales personnel working across CCTV, fire detection, access control and intruder alarm system products.
Axis Communications – one of the leading IP surveillance system developers in the UK – has boosted its technical team with the appointment of Nick Platt-Higgins as UK business development manager. Platt-Higgins is tasked with nurturing the business within the CCTV and IT integrator communities. Other areas of current responsibility will include extending both the Axis Channel Partner Programme and the Axis Academy initiative designed to educate new integrators and installers about IP surveillance. Nick joins Axis having previously served as UK sales manager at Dedicated Micros.
Pauline Norstrom – marketing manager at Dedicated Micros – is to be the new chairman of TC/10 (the Technical Committee operating under the auspices of the BSIA’s CCTV Section). TC/10 has been pivotal in the creation of industry standards, from BS 8418 through to the soon-to-be-published Code of Practice for Digital Video Evidence. Pauline is also the current vice-chairman of the BSIA’s CCTV Section.
Droitwich-based security training concern Train 4 Security has appointed premier security consultant Bill Croft – an ex-Home Office chief inspector – to the Board of Directors such that he can advise on future trends in the industry (and thus help to maximise potential business opportunities). A former head of crime prevention for the West Midlands Police and consultant for the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, Bill’s consultancy practice’s clients include the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Merry Hill Shopping Centre in central Birmingham. Bill is also an NVQ assessor and acts as an external verifier.
The DSA – the representative body for Local Authority Ðǿմ«Ã½ Control – has appointed Paul Everall CBE as chief executive, with day-to-day managerial responsibility for LABC Services (the DSA’s commercial arm). A first class honours graduate in mechanical sciences at Cambridge University, Paul was the longest serving head of the Ðǿմ«Ã½s (previously Ðǿմ«Ã½ Regulations) Division in what is now the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. He has covered all aspects of building control, including security.
Continued expansion at SmartWater Technology has led to two new appointments within the Marketing Department. Marketing executive Kirsty Button previously worked at Fruit of the Loom’s European Head Office as its retail marketing co-ordinator, and will now be responsible for generating heightened national awareness of the SmartWater brand. In addition, PR executive Dave Reynolds arrives from Crew Green Marketing Communications, where he worked as PR representative for a broad range of clients.
Advanced technology-based security management systems developer Group 4 Technology has appointed Darren Martin as its UK marketing manager. Reporting to Kim Loy, vice-president of marketing, Martin will manage all marketing activities for the G4Tech (UK) systems business, undertake several dedicated market research projects and analyse the effectiveness of various marketing campaigns.
Protect – the developer and manufacturer of smoke generators for burglary protection – has just added security expert Richard Knights to its staff. Richard joins as new business development manager with responsibility for expanding global sales.
Leading SSL VPN vendor Aventail has appointed Florian Malecki as marketing manager for the EMEA regions. Based at Aventail’s European headquarters in the UK, Malecki will be driving channel and end user marketing activities right across the EMEA region, concentrating primarily on the company’s latest range of secure remote access solutions. Prior to joining Aventail, Malecki was international channel marketing manager at ClearSwift and tasked with marketing programmes in the UK, France, the Benelux region, southern Europe and South Africa.
Following the Assa Abloy acquisition of both the Nemef and Corbin companies – and with the Nemef and Corbin product sales in the UK being transferred to Mul-T-Lock (UK) – a new AI Division has been set up under the leadership of Clive Stone, its business development manager. Stone will be supported in his work by Steve Edgley (technical sales manager with 40 years’ experience in the industry) and regional manager Mike Waddington, who is tasked with developing specification sales in the north of England.
MDI Security Systems – a recognised leader in the field of delivering open integrated access control, alarm management and video security solutions – has announced the appointment of Robert Schorr as senior vice-president of sales. Most recently, Schorr co-founded biometric access control specialist RF Logics.
