I was very interested to read the Association of London Government’s comments on key worker policy (“London’s key worker homes policy ‘fails the vulnerable’”, 9 July, page 13).

This is a timely criticism of New Labour’s housing policy, which is out of touch with the needs of the most vulnerable and merely panders mindlessly to the middle-class voters with which the party is obsessed.

“Key workers” are the new “deserving poor”, while the rest of us who would dearly love to own a home are excluded. This myopic policy is almost similar to Shirley Porter’s “homes for votes” scandal: key workers are, after all, predominantly Labour voters.

And regarding “Judge calls for clarity amid fears of discrimination claim ‘deluge’” (9 July, page 12) – I’m glad to see common sense prevail regarding this case. Manchester council’s action against a “neighbour from hell” should be congratulated.

Many housing associations should take note. This case should demonstrate to all perpetrators of antisocial behaviour that their selfish attitude will not be tolerated.
