The access control market increased year-on-year for the past four years, although growth levels have slowed in recent years, a recent industry study has shown.
In 2003 a nominal two per cent is expected to take sales to £521 million, representing 30 per cent growth on 1999, according to Market & Business Development.

Real growth is also anticipated in each year from 2004 to 2008.

Overall sales are expected to increase in real terms in that period, taking the level to £568 million in the final year.

But annual growth levels are expected to remain relatively moderate during the forecast period.

Sales of on-line systems are also expected to increase in real terms throughout the review period.

Growth of 14 per cent is expected to take sales up to £272m in 2008. The proportional importance of this sector is also anticipated to increase.

The value of audio/video entry equipment sales and rental income will increase, although the proportion is expected to decline moderately from 33 per cent in 2004 to 32 per cent in 2008.

Standalone systems are expected to continue to decline in importance, with sales fluctuating, but they could reach £114.2m by 2008.
