• Commercial vehicle alarms

Cogent is a commercial vehicle alarm which, according to developer Evesham, has the “potential to revolutionise the road transport industry”. Commercial vehicles with enclosed cargo load spaces used by multi-national blue chip companies are expected to benefit from the device.

Cogent uses carbon dioxide and microwave passive infrared sensors. People exhale carbon dioxide at a level many times higher than background levels in the atmosphere. The presence of intruders is detected by increases in carbon dioxide or by movement in conjunction with body heat. Once the alarm is triggered, the 110 dB siren sounds and the strobe flashes.

Where criminals and illegal immigrants have entered and subsequently left a vehicle, an external LED-based light remains on until the driver disarms the system. The same light will indicate if there has been an attack on the alarm body, strobe or siren or indeed if there has been any attempt made by individuals to block the carbon dioxide sensor.
