Family Housing Association has slashed its responsive repairs contractor pool from more than 80 to just three in a £4.5m, five-year partnering deal.
The Maintenance for Family, or M4F, partnership means Family's 13,000 homes in 28 London boroughs will be covered by a single agreement with Kier Group, Geoffrey Osborne and Connaught Property Services.

It is the first time a housing association has partnered with multiple contractors for its responsive repairs service, and is geographically one of the largest contracts of its kind.

Henriette van Deth, group director at Family, said the arrangement was sparked by a best-value review that found the registered social landlord's 30,000 tenants were unhappy with the repairs service.

She said saving money was not the primary aim, but the RSL had already saved the equivalent of the salaries for two administration jobs as it no longer had to process hundreds of invoices. Instead, there is one regular payment to each contractor.
